BURLINGTON, ON, CANADA – (March 28, 2022) – Qwhery’s chatbot works with your existing business systems, helping your customers find the information they need on your website, quick!

Chatbots, What Are They?

A chatbot is an application that simulates human conversation, either via voice or text communication. The programming uses artificial intelligence and language processing to understand what they are being asked, and provides the user with pre-programmed responses driving them to their desired outcome.

Chatbots are a good way to engage customers who visit your website but need a hand finding specific information. They can help visitors get what they need quickly and with ease. Messaging apps are gradually becoming the preferred method for customers connecting with businesses in certain aspects. In fact, a recent survey by Applause revealed that 44% of participants actually expect voice assistants and search in mobile apps alone. The highest interest of use being for inquiries and requests related to maps and navigation at 54.2%, followed by music and audio at 30.8%, restaurants with 21.1%, and shopping and retail at 19.6% (Voicebot 2021). Chatbots allow for a way of service and convenience that can often exceed the capabilities of human interaction.

Whether you know it or not, you may have already interacted with a chatbot. You might have been at your computer, researching a product, when a window popped up asking if you needed help, or had an issue with an order and connected with an automated chat on a company website. Rather than waiting for someone to answer a phone call or send an email back, chatbots provide users with immediate responses, allowing people to get answers to what they need, when they need it.

Challenges

Implementing a chatbot can be challenging. One of the biggest challenges for a chatbot is understanding the intent of the user. According to a 2022 survey done by Applause, 24.6% of participants have been frustrated with chatbots due to not understanding what they were asking, and 16.4% had chatbots direct them to irrelevant pages or sources. Developers have to consider the flexibility, proactiveness, and intelligence of the algorithm, working at making it capable of interpreting all kinds of messages. As an automated machine, chatbots can only answer in a predefined manner. The way questions are asked by users must also be considered, as the chatbot must understand different sentence structures, syntax, sentence structure and vocabulary. It can be a very difficult task.

While setting-up a new chatbot is already a difficult task, the time it takes to sustain and support the program is also a factor. At the end of the day, the chatbot is still technology that requires tuning and continuous improvement. The fact that 26.6% of survey respondents indicated that prior chatbot experiences have not given them the answers they were looking for showcases that the need for programming updates is never-ending.

Considering all of this information, it is no surprise that chatbots can be a costly investment. From the development, data integration, and all the time and effort it takes to implement, the price of a chatbot can be quite high. For many organizations and businesses, this might not be a realistic addition to their budget.
